Reconfigurable Optical Directed Logic Circuits Based on Mode Division Multiplexing Technology

Reconfigurable optical directed logic circuits (RODLC) aim to perform arbitrary operations using the switch network, in which electrical signals regarded as operands are applied control propagation of light over time, and operation results obtained at output ports network form light. In this paper, a novel RODLC is proposed experimentally demonstrated by utilizing an array with prosperous mode division multiplexing (MDM) technology functions. As proof concept, two (de)multiplexers twelve thermo-optic microring resonators on silicon-on-insulator substrate fabricated based standard microfabrication technology. To demonstrate its reconfigurability functions, eight operations: NOT, AND, NAND, OR, NOR, XOR, XNOR, well one combination four-operand, speed 10 Kbps successfully implemented examples. The characterized reconfigurability, scalability, ability for large-scale integration, will contribute flourishing development computing information processing hybrid integrated circuits.
